Philanthropy

The heart of les Femmes is philanthropy.  Whether we are donating potted herbs for an herb garden at the Shreveport-Bossier Rescue Mission, packing food boxes at the Northwest Louisiana Food Bank, donating our time, energy and money to walk in the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life, or engaging in a fundraising project, we are joining together to serve.  Each month provides a specific focus for service.

Some of our monthly service projects during 2009 included the
Shreveport-Bossier Rescue Mission, the American Cancer Society, Northwest Louisiana Food Bank, American Heart Association, Alzheimer’s Association, Thanksgiving Food Baskets, Toys for Tots, KIDS, Inc., Bossier Council on Aging and March of Dimes.

In 2010/2011, we recognized Volunteers of America and The Gingerbread House at our Grande Bal XII with a donation of $1000 to each organization.

This year, we are supporting SB Squared, a new non-profit organization in our area which benefits the Airmen and Family Readiness Center at Barksdale Airforce Base and The Providence House.

August 15, 2011, kicked off The Year of the Healthy Child, a community partnership addressing the concern of childhood obesity.  As a krewe, we share the concern for wellness for our children, so we are hosting a recipe contest.  Using the guidelines developed by the public schools, we are soliciting nutritious, economical and tasty recipes that can be used in our schools and which can be shared on a website for anyone to use.  Check out our Year of the Healthy Child webpage for information about the contest.  Have questions?  Email Bess Elder at besselder@aol.com or go to www.yearofthehealthychild.com.
